The CDC & Elk is a favorite of ours for caddis hatches all year long.
The CDC & Elk is a sparse, low-riding caddis pattern that fishes great both on or right below the water surface.
This fly is essentially a sparse elk hair caddis with some CDC tied in. It is a great dry fly for rising trout but you can also fish it as an emerger or swing it like a soft hackle. The CDC gives it a bit of translucence that gives it a life-like look subsurface.
